The Village Pub (Tavern)

CitySearch.com: “…Best mushroom burger I ever had!!! Customer services was AMAZING also, very friendly, attentive and prompt.”
wings are good and beer is cold. the power bill must be through the roof with all those flatscreens
Though a husky fan, I can still admire the fact that the Cougars have a headquarters deep in enemy territory in order to watch and cheer on Saturdays. Only drawback is that the food is all heated up from packages bought at Costco or some other retailer, and so you get the nice fresh taste of freezer burn. Burgers are edible though, but doesn’t even come close to a Red Mill burger (or even a Red Robin) by far!
Just went there today 10/1/08 and with the new owners, the booths are back and the food was better. They do need more servers, but the one they have is super sweet!
I visited the pub yesterday and agree with the need for more servers, but the staff was friendly and polite. My meal was hot and fresh and it seems as though the new owners are committed to spiffing the place up and expanding their menu with items I’m most certain don’t come from a freezer bag!
Considering that there are new owners, it seems like the Village Pub should be able to start anew for the reviews. It doesn’t help the new owners to have reviews that drag down there business that they had no control over.
Just a thought since their rating is so low.
New owners are doing a good job, better menu and friendly staff. The food was good! Happy Hour menu is large and good deals. Worth a try.
To be fare they have been the same owners since this blog started.
New menu is fantastic!!! Service is questionable.
Stopped in to try it out since the new ownership. Wish we hadn’t. First clue: the menu. Looks like it was done in Powerpoint, cheesy clip art and all, and then printed out on the office inkjet. How about making a good first impression by hiring a designer? This “we don’t care” attitude extended to the food. Nothing near fresh, everything we had was formerly frozen or jarred or canned. Horrible. Bathrooms were filthy to top it off.
Not a very good neighbor. Overflowing five gallon garbage can, used for cigarette butts, in rear of restaurant. They place their dumpsters in the street, in rear of restaurant; taking up parking spaces.
Food is truly terrible and the service is mediocre.
Much better since the latest menu revamp! The prices are bit more reasonable than before as well. The green bean fries are to die for. Service can still be slow at times.
Loved dinner tonight. We shared the guacamole bacon burger and my wife’s brother loved the kid’s menu selection! We were delighted to watch the 3-0n-3 basketball tournament on the mini flat screen at our own table.
Service was good, the burger was incredible and the crowd was family friendly but not a play-pen.
I have always had bad service here before the new owner’s too over. I have had a better experience since then, but it’s hit or miss. The food is okay and sometimes I wonder it it’s worth it. I go to this place since it’s convenient and I thought it would be faster after soccer/baseball games then me in the kitchen. Sometimes it is… sometimes it isn’t. The owner’s are sweet and I wish that the whole staff was like that. I don’t know their names but there is a couple of guys that bartender there that are really attentive and always make sure everyone is taken care of.
According to http://www.decadeonline.com/main.phtml?agency=skc, at last surprise health inspection this restaurant got 55 points, with 3 high risk violations.
I bet you were a hall monitor.
I love those green bean fries! And I didn't have much of a problem with the service. I will agree with another poster who noted two good members of the bar staff while the others were completely useless.
The health department must not have checked behind this place.Just filthy. Grease and cigarette butts all over the place. Waste oil receptacle place out on the street, taking up part of a parking place.A board sign, out for more than a month, talking about a new menu? When?
Continues to stay in business in spite of itself. Anyone could open the same restaurant next door, do it better and send The Pub packing for good.
Listen… The owners here don't get how to run a neighborhood restaurant period! Food and service is terrible! There is a reason since the old owner the cougar guy left and it has gone down hill steadily ever since… No one can deny it everyone knows since he sold it, it has never been the same or as busy… Get him to buy it back or manage it again and boom right back to being the number one sports bar in Seattle!
That is sooo true!
The restrooms are filthy and smell terrible, gross! The new fries are terrible! A cover charge in Magnolia?!
Trashing The Pub isn't going to make Serendipity look any better, and I doubt the two have any impact on each other's business. There's too many restaurants within 2 blocks that serve edible food.
Weakest drinks in the village. $8 koolaid, are you kidding. Learn how to pour and quit ripping people off.
A great example of business owners that just don't care. You're welcomed by a front sidewalk constantly littered with ciggy butts and trash. It doesn't get much better inside. Dirty. Nothing fresh on the menu, everything from the frozen case at the Cash n Carry. Dueling with Rudy's for the worst meal in Magnolia.
The food is indicative of the cigarette butts scattered in front of the resturant!
Why is this place allowed to take up a city parking space to place their waste grease container. It is placed on the South side of their building.Grease dripping all over the street. Rats????
sounds like they need to clean it up they’re food has gone downhill
I have eaten here over the past few months. New menu is fantastic and the rotating fresh sheets or whatever are always great.
Grease and garbage containers, in back of restaurant, are getting worse and worse.
Lots of rats. Cooking oil/grease leaking all over sidewalk and street. Smells bad.
Please clean the bathrooms once in awihle, they are filthy and smell gross!
I’m not capable of view this web site properly on saffari I believe there’s a drawback
Many thanks for the downright post. I’ve been searching nearby for this site after becoming referred to them from a colleague and was thrilled when i was able to locate it following looking for lengthy time. Ideal wanted to commentary to demonstrate my appreciation for your site because it is incredibly inspiring to complete, and numerous writers don’t secure acknowledgment they deserve. I am confident I’ll be back and definitely will send my pals

Wonderful illustrated information. I thank you about that. No doubt it will be very useful for my future projects. Would like to see some other posts on the same subject! But in some cases, a little preventative thinking and action could have reduced the chance of miscarriage and saved the unborn child.
The Pub just got a new owner a couple of weeks ago, so lets see what happens. With Kevin, he wanted to do more in the kitchen, and what he did was good, but his clientele were basically the beer and burger crowd. That’s not a knock, I like a beer and burger as well as the next person, but pubs are a-changin’ and I’d like to see this one kick it up a notch.
A really usefull article – A big thank you I wish you will not mind me writting about this post on my website I will also link back to this post Thanks
I thought it was going to be some dull aged publish, however it really compensated for my time. I will post a link to this web page on my weblog. I am positive my site visitors will find that extremely useful.
This is my first time i go post. I collected so many interesting things in your site especially its discussion. From the tons of comments on your articles, I guess I am not the only one having all the enjoyment here! keep up the good work.Regards
Please, please, please let the new owners plan/design a menu that explores high-quality, modern American food. The food at the Village Pub (for the past 5+ years) has been D+ at best. A couple episodes of “Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives” on Food Network will show you what is needed. It’s also important to note that the Village Pub is currently rated very poorly.
It’s in the bottom 5 on Magnolia Voice, not even in the top 25!
It’s rated 58% positive (an “F”) on UrbanSpoon.
If you need help with menu planning, let me know!
I’m disappointed with the new owner/ management. Food is no better and several meals have been marginal at best (corned beef for reuben went from the “real” thing to thinly sliced “store bought” meat. Should amend your menu to mention this!!! Blech!) Beverages are more expensive, too – makes the bill a bit of a shock. And to read the headline on The Magnolia News that The Pub was voted best place to watch the Superbowl by Forbes.com was odd. Did they try the food or just look at the TVs???? Don’t look forward to visiting there again anytime soon.
Tootie12 I am also very disappointed, this place is getting worse and worse! Food is horrible I had the steak salad and the steak tasted like rubber so chewy and the salad was drenched in dressing. I am not the type to complain or get people in trouble, but after having the salad I think I had minor symptoms of food poisoning. I advise everyone to only order fried food as we know it will be cooked killing all germs, or better yet, just don’t eat here!!!
went there with some friends to watch march madness. It took 18 minutes for someone to come take our order…. Needless to say we didn’t stay there very long and went somewhere else to watch the games.
Went went back again with friends as they suggested the place (we’d gone in the past with them). 2 of us ordered fish tacos – where’s the fish? Tiny pieces of ripped fish here and there, scant – and the limes were hard as rock and we had to ask for some from the bar! I can’t believe how the quality of food and service has gone downhill since being sold. Had to wait forever to ask for forks (?) and water. Disappointing. Again.
I don’t think we’ll be back anytime soon. I ordered from the happy hour menu (pointed at the HH menu, asked to add fries, etc) and the waitress rang the order up incorrectly. Even though it was her mistake, they refused to honor the happy hour price. That one extra chicken strip cost us $5 and the Pub a couple of regular customers. So dumb on the new owner’s part. I’m guessing he was the one that refused to honor his own HH menu prices because he was there, wandering around.
Ever since Kevin sold this place, it has gone straight downhill. First thing the new owner did when he came in was “clean shop” and fire everyones favorite waitresses and bartenders. The prices went up, the food quality went down, and the atmosphere was sucked straight out of it. It used to a be a really fun place to be on a saturday night, and now.. it’s sort of a bummer.
I totally agree! I went in there last week for happy hour…. there were 3 people working behind the bar and about 6 customers and I still had to wait for a beer. Prices are out of the roof and service is even worse.
I haven’t checked in here for some time as I thought it was getting boring, but the last several posts are great quality so I guess I’ll add you back to my daily bloglist. You deserve it friend
Love their new menu and happy hour! It is so much cleaner under the new ownership. The staff and service is incredibly improved as well–but the previous ownership didn’t seem to set the bar high when it came to that. Looking forward to watching football here in the Fall!
My boyfriend and I recently went in to the Village Pub after swearing it off forever. I was really impressed by the menu, prices, and beer selection. The new owners seem to really know what they are doing. We had several staff members walk by and ask how we were doing. They also mentioned they have a new guy in charge of food, which is pretty obvious because it is much better than what was coming out of the kitchen a year ago. When we got the bill we were all very happy with how reasonable everything on the menu was–and their portions on food are awesome now! They definitely won me back…but I’m still a big fan of the Boxcar too. ;D
5 stars, Jenna!
Watched the Seahawk’s preseason game here on Saturday. My friend and I really liked it, great sound for the game and the place was busy. Great atmosphere, the service was awesome, and our food came out super fast. I was surprised at their beer selection too, tons of choices.
Solid burgers! I was stuffed after eating here this weekend.
Nice…good happy hours. Staff seems a little inconsistent with service, but they are getting better. Worth the visit.
Went to the Pub last weekend – first time in a long time. What a disapointment. Marginal food. Marginal service. And they charged me $2.35 for a refill of Diet Coke – who charges for refills these days?
Met some friends here for a birthday gathering a few days ago. This place has really turned around since my last visit. Reasonable prices, great food, fast service, and the bathrooms were super clean (which as a lady I appreciate very much). The only downside, if you can call it such, is that there were quite a few kids running around–but hey, it’s Magnolia what do you expect?
We would go there more often if there werent so many kids running freely.
Any crazy person that has anything negative to say about this place is just that, crazy. This is the best place to go in town to have fun, eat great food and talk to awesome people. The staff is great and I can’t say enough about how great this place is.
Thanks Joel for staying open and letting us drink till 2:30am on St.Pattys night. We had a great time!
Mich44 has no clue what he is talking about….I was at the bar on that exact same day and not only is it a REAL sports bar, but it did not take 5 minutes before someone noticed me or any other patron for that matter. There is nothing that bothers me more than people saying openly that it took X amount of minutes when in reality they were too impatient to enjoy the greatest tournament in sports. Obviously Mich44 woke up on the wrong side of the bed. I will most certainly be back to what I believe is the best hidden gem in Seattle.
Great sports bar, good food, excellent Ale selection that keeps cycles regularly – and the staff are very friendly – especially the owner and his brothers. The booth TVs are a big hit with my 6 year old son! We go here often and will continue to do so. This pub stands up to many of the MANY pubs I’ve frequented in Seattle for the past 20 years.
