Magnolia residents have a chance to let the city know how they feel about a proposed jail in Interbay at a public hearing on Thursday. The proposed site (marked by the X) is located right across from the new Whole Foods complex (arrow) that is being built on 15th Ave.
The Interbay site is one of four possible locations for a new jail that would hold misdemeanor offenders when the King County Jail runs out of space. The new jail is scheduled to open in 2013.
The public meeting will be Thursday from 7 pm to 9 pm at Blaine. A meeting held several weeks ago drew a pretty sparse crowd so organizers are hopeful that more people will attend this time. City Councilmember Tim Burgess is scheduled to attend. Burgess said at a previous meeting that he thinks the Interbay site makes the most sense for the jail.
The forum is sponsored by Magnolia Community Club and the Queen Anne Community Council.
