Facing eviction, mood changes at Nickelsville

October 2nd, 2008 · 1 Comment

The mood was somber this evening when we visited the homeless encampment known as Nickelsville in Discovery Park.  The organizers have just learned that the city has given them 72 hours to vacate the area.

These signs were posted in the area. When we arrived, they were having a tense group meeting as they decided what to do next.  They would not share their plans but one of the organizers did tell us that they had no immediate plans to leave the location behind the Daybreak Star Cultural Center.

When we asked whether they would attempt to stay beyond the 72 hour deadline imposed by the city the organizers were tight lipped.

Night before last down at far side of Reflection Pool in Discovery Park, my lady companion and myself, while making our dinner in the dark, experienced, fear, intimidation, violation, just to name a few emotions that ran through our beings while trying to eat our meal.
