Traffic rants in Magnolia

October 5th, 2008 · View Comments

For the second time in a few weeks, Magnolia is featured in the Seattle Times Rant and Rave section.  This time it was directed at trouble with intersections.

“To the woman in the Subaru who nearly mowed down the red Jeep Wrangler at the intersection of 25th Avenue West and West Armour Street in Magnolia on Sept. 24. You blew right through the intersection without even looking. When you finally did glance over — you must have heard our brakes squealing — you gave us a big, toothy grin. You don’t belong behind the wheel of a potentially deadly weapon. Slow down. You do not own the road. City of Seattle: We need more stop signs in Magnolia.”

What is up with Magnolia drivers?

Magnolia is a scary place to drive; people blast through intersections that have no stop signs. Don’t they know to yield to those on the right? That’s how it works at unmarked intersections!!!
Seriously, this goes on all the time in Magnolia and I’m just surprised that there are not more auto-pedestrian or auto accidents. Slow down people!

I have to concur with both these comments. I also wish Magnolia had speed bumps like they do in parts of Queen Anne as well. I get gas on the corner of Dravus and 20th in Magnolia and am floored by the speed some of the drivers are driving! We live on the eastern slope of the hill and feel the same way. I am continually watching cars speed up and down the hill. More stop signs and speed bumps would be great as well as more conscientious drivers in the area!

Riding the bus one day the driver told me that Magnolia is the scariest route he drives in the entire county. That was after a car played cicken with him on Viewmont and another busted a stop sign in front of him.

Have to agree – the average driver on Viewmont goes way too fast. We’ve seen parked cars side swiped by speeding cars. How do we go about getting speed bumps like QA has?

I have been asking for a stop sign or traffic circle for intersection of Raye & 35th Ave West but to no avail. I have personally witnessed many injury accidents at this intersection for the last 22 years I have lived here, but City continues to ignore this request. Again, these are the same people that thought a BAT lane on 15th made sense regardless of 17,000 ADT northbound exiting to Magnolia Bridge for sake of 5-7 buses in an hour. Go figure?
