Increase in sirens?

MagnoliaVoice reader Jane had a good question for us today.

What’s with the increase in sirens the last few months? At least twice a week now I’m hearing sirens (police?) at night. I’ve lived in Magnolia, near Discovery Park, for 8 years now and this is the first time I remember hearing sirens on a regular basis. Has my hearing suddenly improved or is there something going on in the neighborhood of late? If you or your readers have any answers I would love to hear it.

Anybody else noticing the same thing?

    I'm in Queen Anne and have been noticing almost daily sirens lately and wonder what is going on??
    Often more than once a day...any info?

    yes, I live at the north end of Magnolia near Ft. Lawton and I've noticed increased police sirens. I'm not sure where or how close they are to my home, but it wakes me up. I wonder if they might be coming from Ballard.

    Yes Yes Yes! Who needs sirens at 5am??!?!? I am so sick of it. I understand people get sick 24hrs a day but why do they insist on sirens in a residential neighborhood at 5am? I always hear them and I can always tell which way they are going to go just by sound....

    There's been an uptick up on top of Queen Anne in the past couple of months. Two sirens since 5 AM today for example.... although it is not a daily thing. But it is noticeably more frequent.

    The engine is listed on the dispatch page as E41.

    It may also be the Fire Engine that is stationed in the village. I have noticed on the Fire department's 911 dispatch page that there has been an unusually high number of medical calls.
  • Interesting question. The Magnolia Community Club has a representative on the SPD's West Precinct Advisory Committee, so we'll ask the police and see what they have to say.
