Fightin’ Cock Roaster opens on Thorndyke

November 12th, 2008 · 9 Comments

Veteran restaurant operator Jon Davis thinks the area around Thorndyke is ripe for growth and that’s why he decided to open his new restaurant on the Thorndyke strip two blocks south of Dravus at the 20th Ave West intersection.

The Fightin’ Cock Roaster serves chicken and sandwiches in a cozy location that is mostly take-out with a small counter. The restaurant has been open for just nine days but already they are finding fans of the menu that is inspired by Davis’s travels around the world. There are influences from Thailand, Cuba and Mexico.

Ursula Chapman lives nearby and she was anxious to try the menu that features chicken marinated in lime, garlic and spices for one full day before it is grilled on an open flame, finished in a moisture preserving roaster and then pan fried for flavor. The sandwiches are served on a fresh baked Vietnamese roll.

We tried the entree shown above that includes a half chicken, beans and rice, salad and a roll. The chicken was moist and tasty. We were impressed with the large portions and the flavors were great. You can choose between red or black beans and the rolls are fresh daily.

The house specialty is a Mojo sauce with bell peppers, chilis, onions, garlic and citrus. It comes on a sandwich or over rice with chicken or tofu. Prices are reasonable with sandwiches at $4.95 and meals at $7.95.

The grand opening is planned for November 15. We predict that this little restaurant will be a big hit once Magnolia residents get a taste of the menu that Jon Davis and his team have put together. Give it a try and let us know what you think.

The restaurant is open from 11am to 9pm daily. You can call ahead at 206-282-2663. The Fightin’ cock Roaster is located at 2809 Thorndyke Ave West.

I saw this article and went over to try it…the food was great!

I had the Muay Thai sandwich and black beans on the side. The sandwich was really tasty and the chicken cooked perfectly. I loved the food and will definitely return.

Jon was really friendly and chatted while my food was being prepared. I’ve been addicted to Baguette Box and Paseo’s, but they have a rival now!

To second Allison, the Muay Thai was really tasty. Having a place like this just down the block is great.

Jon, you’ll definitely be getting more business from me. I can’t wait to try the rest of the menu!

I had the Muay Thai for lunch today…it was spicy good!! The sandwich rivals the ones you get at Paseo’s, maybe better.

Jon (at Fightin’ Cock Roaster) - I just added your restaurant to UrbanSpoon.com. In addition to a web site, UrbanSpoon has an iPhone app that I use many times per week. This is a good way for you to get more exposure. Two recommendations: get a website, no matter how basic AND post your menu online. This will help in discovery both online and on the iPhone app (for Urban Spoon and others).

I haven’t tried your restaurant yet, but I will soon. I am a Magnolia resident and am always looking for new investment in our Magnolia community!

This place is so great! I can’t believe the word isn’t out yet about their chicken - I had the Mojo sandwich & it was all things heavenly!! People will be wrapped around the block for this food soon, mark my words. I agree with Dogman, they are giving Paseo a run for their money. I also can’t wait to use that patio this summer!

Agreed. I enjoyed my meal here. Will be back. Website with even just the menu would definitely be a good idea.
