Cruise ships coming to Magnolia

January 23rd, 2009 · 6 Comments

Get used to seeing cruise ships in the neighborhood soon.  Holland America, Princess and Royal Caribbean cruises will depart from the new Terminal 91 Cruise Facility (to the left when you drive up the Magnolia Bridge) starting April 24.  The Port of Seattle says the terminal is 90% complete. Here is the schedule for the ships at Pier 91. The map below shows the plan for handling passengers and traffic flow for the cruise ships.
The Port plans to name the new facility Smith Cove Cruise Terminal after Dr. Henry A. Smith, one of the first pioneers to settle in Seattle. Dr. Smith was instrumental in the development of Interbay.  The Port also owns and maintains nearby Smith Cove Park.

wow that is going to make for a big traffic mess on 15th.

Good thing the city reduced the number of lanes on 15th, and added so many confusing signs. It will be so much more fun for the taxis and rental cars.

City planning at its best! Well thought out.

Let’s close some more lanes, and let ‘er rip!

15th is already a mess. The taxis from Sea-Tac will LOVE it as they carry the cruise tourists to Pier 91, as the meters keep an rollin’ in all that stop & go traffic!

Hip hip hurrah, for the planners . . .

Finally visitors will have a proper arrival location for the cruise ships. The Pier 91 site will give a much better introduction to our city.
With all those tourist dollars coming this summer, I think it will be exciting to see these ships in the neighborhood. A 40 year resident.
