Victory Music, in partnership with Q Café is running an open microphone opportunity for acoustic musicians on Tuesday evenings at the Q. Sign up by 6:15, performances run from 6:30 to 9 pm. They get a range of folks from world-reknown pros like David Maloney (of Reilly and Maloney) to first timers. It is a great listening room and a supportive environment to play. Video here.
On Friday April 17, Victory will be hosting a CD release party for a new compilation: “A Northwest Acoustic Celebration Volume Two” featuring some of the most talented, lesser known, songwriters in the region. Tickets are $12/$10 for Victory members. Show starts at 8 pm.
Q Cafe is a non-profit neighborhood cafe featuring direct trade espresso, tea, art, live music, and community events located at 3223 15th Ave. West.

the Q cafe is a great place: free wi-fi and Stumptown coffee and great music make it a fav place to get out of my home office to do some work in a less lonely place.
Good music in the evenings too. Check it out.

What’s up with this place? I thought it was part of the church, no? Is the live music christian or secular?

Can be either but is mostly secular music. It’s affiliated with the Quest church but the goal is to have a community place for music and art and events. Some of the events focus on global issues like poverty and human trafficking, with films and discussions. They usually have some artist’s work displayed on the walls.
Kind of confusing but no one will try to talk religion with you if you go there. http://qcafe.org/

Among the emerging stars that I have seen at the Q Cafe over the years - only to then catch them on Letterman, Leno or Good Morning America - include Sara Bareilles, Mat Kearney. And then there is Jon McLaughlin - he performed at the Q twice in 2006, and had a song in a movie nominated for an Oscar - and performed live at the Academy Awards (2007).
As for spirituality, its all about tolerance and getting along - they’ve got it. Do you?
