We have some new information following our recent reports about car prowls in Magnolia.
SPD West Precinct Crime Prevention coordinator Terrie Johnston says that March was a busy month for Magnolia car prowls, with a high number of incidents reported up until the 26th of the month. Since then the numbers have gone down. Johnston checks Magnolia incidents daily.
“I continue to read reports of GPS units and I-Pods being taken, with some victims reporting their cars were rifled through and nothing was taken. Please remove any valuables you have in your car, and deny the prowlers the temptation to break out your window, pop your trunk or car locks, ” says Johnston.
SPD recommends reporting all car crimes to 911 even if you are not going to report the loss to your insurance company.
Johnston also says there have been residential burglaries in Magnolia over the past six weeks but the numbers are actually lower than other neighborhoods. There was a significant burglary on Magnolia Blvd. when the burglar took a rock from the victim’s garden and threw it through the window and entered the home. This happened in the middle of the day. The majority of burglaries actually occur between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m.
