We received this warning about recent burglaries in Queen Anne. Since our neighborhoods are so close we wanted to pass this along from crime prevention officer Terrie Johnston:
This week we have had a “cat burglar” hitting multi-family dwellings on upper level floors in lower Queen Anne/Uptown neighborhood, near Kinnear Park. The burglar enters through open, unlocked sliding glass doors. In two of the burglaries, the victims were home at the time of the crime. Laptops, digital cameras, wallets were taken. The suspect is described as a white male, 30 – 40 years old, dressed in black with long black hair.
1. Even if you live in an upper floor of your condo. or apartment building please lock your doors. If your sliding glass door has an inside track, install a snug fitting wooden or metal dowel into the bottom track or purchase a “Charlie Bar” which is hinged and installed in the center.
2. Consider motion-sensitive lighting for your balcony.
3. Keep your blinds or curtains drawn while away, if your flat screen TV and/or other electronics are clearly seen from street level.
4. Please call 911 to report anything suspicious.
5. Keep your neighbors informed of anything unusual or criminal.
