Crow concerns

June 18th, 2009 · 1 Comment

We got this email from Magnolia reader Jeff and wanted to pass it along:

I saw a dead crow last week on Magnolia Blvd (by the tennis courts) across the street from the drive-up mail box.   I didn’t think anything of it, until I saw a message from another Magnolia resident who had seen three dead crows in Magnolia in the past week.

If you see a dead crow or any dead bird, you should report it to the King County Health Department.  From their website:

If you have a fresh and undamaged crow, jay, or raven, please keep it for possible West Nile virus testing. The bird should be put into 2 plastic bags and kept in a cool place. We will call and/or email you within 24 hours if your bird is needed for testing. If you are not contacted within 24 hours, please dispose of the bird in your household garbage. Only some crows, jays, and ravens will be selected for West Nile virus testing. Other types of birds (waterfowl, shore birds, domestic poultry) may be collected for avian flu testing.

Click here for the reporting form or you can call 206-205-4394 with questions.
