We have mixed emotions about the rest of Seattle finding out what Magnolia residents already know but the word is out in the just released Seattle Weekly Best of Seattle poll. Some Magnolia favorites make the list this year.
In the Reader’s Poll Discovery Park is named the Best In-City Hiking Trail. They call it a place that will wow visitors and take natives’ breath away. Readers said that Discovery Park offers sublime sunset views and a surprisingly large network of soft, walkable paths leading through the woods, past the cliffs, and down to the beach. The Reader’s Poll also named Discovery Park the Best Place to Spot a Bald Eagle.
The Weekly Editor’s Poll says the Best Onion Rings in town are at our own Red Mill. Editors say that they don’t serve onion rings at Red Mill so much as thick chunks of onion with a hole in the center. Magnolia Voice readers show the love for Red Mill too, it is currently the favorite in our restaurant section.
The Weekly comes up with some obscure categories in its annual poll and the award for Best Menu Item Name goes to Mulleady’s Irish Pub. They win the prize for their Irish Knockers and Colcannon. Anyone who has been there knows that knockers are a pork sausage, which the cooks at Mulleady’s Irish Pub have Uli’s custom-make for them, and that the colcannon actually means mashed potatoes threaded through with bright-green kale leaves. But the name still makes us giggle. Mulleady’s is a favorite of our readers too.
And finally the award for Best Tourist Attraction to Satisfy Your Dad goes to the Hiram M. Chittenden Locks. You won’t get any argument from us on that one. We never get tired of watching that boat parade. And its free.
