Yay. I can't wait.

This festival is a major nuisance to cyclists every year. I find it interesting that the City is willing to shut down a major commuting route for such a significant period of time. It turns my 25 minute commute into a 45 minute commute (or longer depending on how many stoned individuals I have to navigate around). Worse, it forces more cyclists onto the roads, such as 15th, something we all know drivers hate. To cyclists, it is on par with placing the Hemp Fest in the the middle of I5 for five days. Can't they find a better place for this festival?

I agree that Hempfest significantly increases the commuting time for cyclists. Isn't this part of the EIS for the festival? Luckily, on one seemed to be enforcing the no bike rule today, but I almost ran into a stoned cyclist.

OMG !! a cyclist is being inconvenienced by someone else’s hobby? Someone call the Mayor! Call the Gov.! Call Obama immediately!!! We can not waste a single minuet of a cyclist time or make them go around an obstruction in their path!!! Oh the humanity!!! I mean god forbid that their self centered, self absorbed life have any sort of delay as they go about their lives. I mean come on their in such a rush most can’t even stop at a stop sign or light. How can we expect them to be slowed down by something like this . WE MUST SPRING IN TO ACTION! NOW!!!

Well I guess two types of people won't be bothered by hempfest: drivers and people with jobs.

I think “hillobeans” is confused. He must have meant to type “driver” everywhere he accidentally typed “cyclist.” Then his post makes perfect sense.

I have to say, I really feel sorry for people like “hillobeans.” The city is changing around them and it terrifies them. Cities simply cannot continue to exist as vehicle-dependent, vehicle-centered entities. That model no longer works. Rather than accepting change with some flexibility, they become rigid, angry cowards who have to attack their neighbors behind a fake name.

OK- Its a three day event! Who cares if bikers have to take a different route. It's a festival…regardless if it's a festival YOU are interested in. We have events that close the street in various places all the time. Most of the time, they close roads to vehicles, this time it's bikers. It happens… get over it!

What a bunch of curmudgeons (yes Heather, I mean you)!! I agree with Serpy, it's a great festival that draws a large and diverse crowd every year – I'm sure you can find an alternative route for a couple of days…jeesh!

Serpy–Name one festival that shuts down a major road for three days, actually five days since they shut the bike path down for the two days leading up to the festival as well. The Myrtle Edwards trial is the main route all south bound cyclists take into the city.

Drew–I can find another route to work, but it will be on a road and if you have read this website at all, you will know that drivers complain whenever cyclists are on the road. So, if you don't want us on the road, don't shut down the bike paths. Otherwise, don't complain if we are on the road.

Um, Solstice. The street they shut down for that festival (and doubly on parade day) and is a busy arterial for Fremont cyclists.
Hempfest is once a year, it's a fun event, lighten up.
Disclaimer: I'm a pedestrian. I don't drive and I don't bike. But I will be at Hempfest.
