Cougar sighting in Magnolia?

We got this note from Magnolia Voice reader Jo LInda and wanted to pass it along to see if anyone had any additional information:

Heard from someone at Mounger Pool that a neighbor had seen a cougar on the northeast part of Magnolia, near the Midnight Mart. Have you heard anything of this?

We can’t imagine that a Cougar is running around Magnolia but then again there was a bear on the loose earlier this summer so we guess anything is possible.

I was at the north end of 28th ave in Magnolia (at the dead end) the other night and three adults (a couple that lived on that street and another man driving by) all reported seeing a very large cat (~70 pounds), which was waist-high, tan, with a very long tail, no stripes. It went between two houses toward the ravine. Sounds like a cougar to me.

Warning Cougars can dress pretty sexy and what is a normal person to do?

Our neighbor near Emerson and Roberts Way saw a Cougar cross Emerson and enter a yard. on Friday 8/28. I did not beleive the story at first but am keeping my cat indoors now.

Last night 8/30 we were driving on 36th Ave W. Past the Army Reserve and a large cat crossed in front of our car. It jumped over the fence between 36th and the Army Reserve property. We did not believe what we had seen so we entered the Army property and witnessed the cat/cougar jump clear over the fence into the Fort Lawton Cemetary, a fence of about 8 feet. It is real and out there.

Last night (8/31) around 12:30 a.m. I was returning to my home between 35th & 36th and Bertona and witnessed an extremely large cougar in my alley heading south. I chased it in my car heading north about 1/2 a block until it cut through a neighbors yard toward 36th ave w. It paused at the top of their stairs and looked down at me. I rolled down my window and yelled at it to go away. It was not scared. (I was!) My cat was outside and this thing had almost been right on top on him. After bringing him in I called 911 and the operator said that they had received numerous reports of sighting right here in Magnolia. Just thought people should know….

Why, may I ask, has this not been in the news or at least more widely circulated?

One of these sitings is yards from the ravine at 29th and Emerson where neighborhood Lawton Elementary kids will be walking to school within a week?

Leaving me even more breathless is the fact that this very blog recently announced a partnership with The Seattle Times. And searching the Seattle the last few days has only produced mentions of Cougar as it relates to WSU!

Anyway I am surprised there has been no coverage of this in our press since it has such a potentially huge impact on public safety.
