Four robbed at gunpoint on Magnolia Blvd

September 9th, 2009 · Comments

We just got this information about an armed robbery in Magnolia early this morning from the Seattle Police log:

On 9/9/09 at 1:19 a.m., the 4 victims were sitting on a park bench in the 2600 block of Magnolia Blvd. W., when 3 black male suspects approached them and asked if they had any marijuana. The victims stated no and the suspects brought out handguns and robbed the victims. The suspects seemed to work as a team and searched the victims by patting them down to make sure that nothing was missed. The suspects took the victims’ property and fled on foot. The victims found someone nearby to call 911. A K-9 responded and a perimeter was set but the suspects were not located. One of the suspects that the victims did see had his face covered with a red bandana.

A simple solution to crime in Magnolia would be to install some controllable barriers on the roads that leave the neighborhood. Everyone knows that there are only 3 ways out of Magnolia. There should be a hotline linked to the barriers so a crime victim could call the hotline and if the report was deemed credible, the barriers would immediately be erected thereby preventing anyone from leaving or entering Magnolia. The authorities could then search the neighborhood until they apprehended the perpetrators.
Even if this ideal solution could not be attained, an even simpler solution could be easily installed which would help fight crime and discourage would be criminals. What we need is a few volunteers who live on the 3 roads leaving Magnolia to install high quality video cameras to record all traffic leaving and entering Magnolia. This way, when a crime is committed in Magnolia, the victim could report the time of the crime. Police could use this information to determine who was in the neighborhood during the time the crime was committed. This would greatly simplify the number of possible suspects. Criminals who became aware of this layer of security in Magnolia, would simply take their criminal enterprise elsewhere.
Why put up with crime when simple solutions exist?

I have an old VCR camera you can use.

I don't think the Magnolia Lockdown Protocol will work. With helicopters landing anywhere and easy water access, your plan will be foiled.

How about a moat and draw bridge?

I hope the police find the robbers and gun them down.

I think this is connected to the party scene down by the lighthouse. I drove down there one evening over the summer and it was a little surprising. The people partying down there stared at me as if I was intruding on their "scene". I have also noticed a lot of partying in the north parking lot of Discovery Park and at the locks. I think word is out that there aren't any police patrolling the far reaches of Magnolia. I hope they can catch these jerks.

I am going to sound pretty uptight here, but I don't think that this is really that funny. Armed robbery? I realize there is no reason that we should be immune from this type of thing on magnolia, but to hear that it is actually happening so close to our homes and kids is kind of a scary reality.

If only the cougar eluded capture, he might have prevented this...

I agree. The venerable cougar was spotted more times than a SPD police car in Magnolia.

Armed Robberies. Global warming. Coincidence? I think not.
