A nationally published cartoonist lost a large chunk of his life’s work after a burglar took computer equipment from his Interbay office. Stu Heinecke, whose work has appeared in the Wall Street Journal and other publications, said the thief cut through a fence, broke a window and stole several Apple computers, including a cinema display and a G-5.
Several Interbay area businesses were burglarized Thursday night with the suspect caught on surveillance tape. You can see the video on King 5. The burglar also hit the office building next door, where security cameras caught him casually unloading more computer equipment from the elevator then driving away in a white pickup loaded with loot.
“We’ve got to get this guy off the streets,” said Heinecke, who backed up only a small portion of his work on a separate hard drive. “This is not right. We’re all struggling, we’re all trying to get by, and to have someone come in and pick off your business like this just to get some drugs? Some money? It’s not right.”
Heinecke says there were other breakins in the neighborhood a couple weeks ago. One of Heinecke’s desk top computers was found Friday morning at a car wash. The owner took it to an Apple store that traced it back to Heinecke and returned it.

Hopefully Stu gets his data back, computers can be replaced.
This would be a good time for readers to ask yourself what you would lose if your computer was stolen, destroyed or failed. Pocket sized 320GB drives can be had anyplace for under $100. Make copies of you photos, digital music and video files and get them off-site. Put it in a desk drawer at your office, leave it at you mothers house whatever just don't keep it with your computers. I'm making a fresh backup right now.

Seems to me that video could be cleaned up enough to see the license plate info on the truck as it's driving away?
