UPDATE at 11 p.m. Seattle City Light reports that power has been restored in Queen Anne and Magnolia. The area on 31st Ave West was blocked off during the outage between Bertona and Dravus and a number of blocks in the area were without power. Many residents we talked to reported seeing a large flash before the power went out.
Earlier: It’s a windy and rainy evening in Magnolia. Power is out in parts of the neighborhood and Silver posted in the forum about wires down at 3254 31st Ave. Writes My Ballard reader Brian:
“Did anybody see 3 giant blue flashes of light coming from Magnolia around 7:30 pm. It was the strangest thing I’ve ever seen. Somebody in front of us drove in to a tree on 15th after it lit up the sky. I think he was really hurt.”
There are also reports of house alarms going off, presumably because of the wind. Over on Queen Anne, much of the neighborhood is without power. What do you see? Share your weather stories in comments.

You saw the flashes all the way from 15th? We saw them…it looked like a transformer on a telephone pole exploded (for lack of a better word) on 34th near Ruffner. The lights in the houses on 33rd through 30th went dark immediately afterwards.

I saw two flashes for sure (and there could have been one more) from 15th right before 7:30p tonight and I also noticed that most of the lights on Magnolia were off briefly and then back on again after a minute or two. I assumed it was a tranformer because of the wind and rain. There were a lot of people stopped in traffic for an accident northbound on 15th, a bit south of the Ballard bridge.

The blue light happened 3 times. I live in a townhouse in Ballard on 26th and 57th that has south facing windows twords the locks and Magnolia. After the bright blue light lit up the sky twice, I ran upstairs to take a look and was looking directly toward Magnolia when the 3rd explosion if you will occurred. It seriously looked like something you would see in a science fiction movie. Easily one of the craziesf things I have ever seen in my life.

I was directly across from the transformer on 36th and Bertona. It was loud and bright. I felt like my house was going to be zapped up by aliens. Everyone on that side lost there power for about 2 hours. The west side of 34th was fine.
