A plane roared over Magnolia around 8:30 Tuesday night, startling some residents (including us!) who stepped outside to see what was generating so much volume. “(It was) the loudest I’ve heard in a long time. Woke up my 6 year old!” wrote MyBallard reader SeattleRichardson in the forum. “That scared the LIFE out of me,” said GinaMarie. A couple weeks ago, a similar incident startled Greenwood residents at 3:30 a.m. No word on the type of plane, but some folks are speculating that it’s a UPS plane flying at low altitude due to the weather.
This seems like a good time to remind you that there is a meeting tomorrow (11/12) regarding plane noise in Magnolia. Representatives from SeaTac, Boeing Field and Alaska airlines will be on hand. It starts at 7pm at the Blaine cafeteria.

I saw it and it was not UPS, DHL or Fed Ex, it was a much smaller aircraft, my best guess is it was some type of military aircraft.

Totally. I just wish my husband was home cause he would have figured out what it was.

Military aircraft is the consensus over on MyBallard as well…

I heard it. Not only was it super loud, it went on and on and on. Must have been more than one plane. It almost souded like it was about to crash…

Does anyone know of a way to measure the decibels on these low flights? It is window rattling loud way too often, especially the 4:30AMish plane.

I heard it as well. It was really, really, really loud. Not a UPS aircraft. It was black in color, I looked right up and saw it. It looked to be a military type jet but wasn't flying at a fighter jet speed. It was flying much slower but man it was LOUD!

By the way, this plane yesterday wasn't even flying that low. I live on the interbay side of magnolia and it was at about the same altitude as many of the commercial flights that fly over towards BFI or SEA.

Extraordinarily loud — loud enough that it vibrated a Blackberry off the arm of a couch and was louder than what we were watching on television.

Yeah we heard it as well and I went outside but couldn't see anything. I jog down Mag Blvd every night and see the UPS and DHL planes come in. They are coming in lower and only in good winds from the south do they hike up the rpms, but this was something different.
I have seen that 737 sub hunter they are testing over Hood Canal with a weird back on it and it is really loud flying around.
V is back on tv…any thoughts?

While that plane may not have landed at Boeing Field, here's a little noise history.
During the dot.com boom FedEx and UPS planes were especially noisy. At that time they and other low-flying planes really got Magnolia residents hot-under-the-collar. As a result (after a number of meetings) there was a hot line set up at Boeing Field (BFI). Does anyone know if it is still active? Someone in Larry Philips office might remember.
Note that the airspace over Magnolia from 0 to 1000 ft 'belongs' to BFI. Above that 'belongs' to SEA.
As to why planes head into BFI over Magnolia, there's a 'marker' or beacon located the head of the Magnolia bridge. (It's in that little building there.)

I heard the plane, does it have anything to do with Vice president Biden being at McChord?
