Coyote spotted at Pier 91

November 13th, 2009 · Comments

Eliot emailed us this photo this morning of a coyote hanging out at pier 91.

Eliot writes, “I’m a school bus driver and saw the coyote when I returned to the bus lot at Pier 91.”

On Wednesday, a Magnolia Voice reader spotted a coyote in the 5400 block of 40th Ave West.

I posted this on the other "coyote on 40th" link but they need to stay and be managed and people need to stop freaking out about them-
They are not only very cute :0 but not dangerous if we just leave them alone-
Its very cliche but they are more scared of us then we are of them.
If the City would get its act together they could start a coyote management program that tracks these guys and maybe even catch a few of the males/females and sterilize them so we don't get over run with these urban wild dogs (because then we have all other kinds of issues)
And um...to the cat parents who let their felines run wild--free-roaming pets are illegal in Seattle--and while I would hate to see any cat/dog pet get eaten by a coyote-its gonna happen unless you keep them inside!

Roaming pets illegal? I had better lock up my pet pigeons!

leash, roaming laws do not apply to cats... we had issues with a neighbor's cat doing business repeatedly in our vegetable garden and contacted animal control and wanted to know our possible options. None really since it wasn't a feral cat, and it was too hard to prove it was he who was damaging our garden. It's not illegal for cats to be outdoor cats.

I also spotted (presumably) this same coyote at the intersection of 22nd Ave W and Armour St (it was occupying my space at the bus stop) last Friday. It then wandered off into the backyards of some of the houses on 22nd Ave W and I did not see it again.

I saw it too -- right on the northeast corner of 22nd & Armour. I can't remember the date, but it was a weekend morning. I was just getting ready to cross the street with my dog when I saw it. The coyote was looking at us, but it kept still, so I just went to the other side of the street and continued walking north with my dog -- who looks somewhat similar to the coyote -- so when I first saw it I wasn't sure if was wild or just a stray pet. Very strange!

Two years ago I saw what was definetly a coyote trotting down the middle of 5th avenue, across from the KCTS broadcast building, all in view of the Space Needle.

    Incredible!

Yes, we need more carnivores. I would love the Coyote to come to my area of Magnolia! My neighbor would probably feed it along with the crows, seagulls, raccoons, feral cats and rats that are currently being fed daily.

Are we sure this isn't someone's pet? :D

Wow, a very healthy young coyote. Growing up here in the 60's there were LOTS of coyotes around Seattle, we saw them every day. And we NEVER saw rats, ever. Then they trapped the coyotes, and the rat population exploded. Let's keep the carnivores and put nature back in balance...
  • That rocks. Great picture.
