A burglary in the Interbay area was foiled yesterday when the suspects were caught pretty much red-handed. Here is the information from the Seattle Police Department:
On December 15th, just before midnight, an alarm activation was broadcast over the radio for the back door of a business in the 1800 Block of 15th Avenue West. A West Precinct patrol officer happened to be driving by that location when the call came out and saw two individuals at the back door of the business. The officer went over to contact the two men. A large crowbar fell out from under one of the suspect’s coat. The two men were immediately taken into custody. Both men were wearing gloves, even though it was a mild night. In an effort to explain himself, one suspect claimed that he was carrying the crowbar for protection, but could not explain why he was also carrying a flashlight and screwdriver, similar to the tools recovered from his partner. Clearly their alibi was not well rehearsed as one admitted that they drove to the area while the other insisted they walked from North 105th Street and Greenwood Avenue North, a distance of slightly more than five miles. The owner of the business was contacted and advised officers that no one should be trying to enter the back door of his business by prying it open. The two men, ages 19 and 30, were later booked into the King County Jail for Investigation of Burglary. The West Precinct Burglary detectives will handle the follow up investigation.
No word yet on whether this could be related to a break in last month in that area that left a local artist without much of his life’s work.
