Fighting Cock Roaster for sale

After a rocky history in Magnolia, the Fighting Cock Roaster on Thorndyke is listed for sale for $60,000. The restaurant opened to rave reviews in November of 2008 but closed in March when owner Jon Davis said he needed to restructure. He reopened with an expanded menu in September but has now put the restaurant on the market.

The $60,000 asking price includes the restaurant name, menu, recipes and equipment. The building is not part of the sale and a new buyer would need to take over the lease or renegotiate.

The broker listing the restaurant for sale tells us that Davis and his wife want to relocate and that is why they are selling the restaurant. Davis says he would expect to train the new owners following a sale.

The Fighting Cock Roaster is still open for business.

This place is so YUMMY and inexpensive. I hope someone local takes over and leaves the menu the same and open it for dinner!

I had high hopes for this place, but it's NEVER open – the hours have been so inconsistent that I stopped thinking of it as an option. Maybe if someone takes it over they can change that. I do hate seeing new places leaving Magnolia rather than coming!

I concur with Drew. Every time I've come they're always closed.

I guess the deal is they have enough food until Noon to 2PM, and that varies from day to day. Its a bit frustrating, because they put signs all over the place which don't mention the fact that maybe you should call ahead because you'll be getting a surprise when you show up at a closed restaurant.

Come spring, FCR will extend business hours to include dinner and be in operation 6 days a week. The expanded hours will be coupled with a beer and wine license and delivery. All of these plans are in process, and can be implemented by the current or new owners.

The current hours are 6:30am- 2:00pm Weds-Sat for the remainder of the winter, to keep the business scalable through the slow season, as well as the fact that the owner had a baby this fall.

Since reopening, we now offer an expanded menu and coffee, and have brought on board a former Lighthouse Coffee barista. We work with Fremont Coffee Company french roast espresso beans pulled through a classic manual machine, with a house specialty of Café Cubano.
