Strange noises reported

February 6th, 2010 · View Comments

Magnolia Voice reader Jennifer wrote to us this morning about some strange noises she heard outside her house:

At around 5am today, I’m pretty sure I heard a bear attacking a small animal.  It was a loud deep constant roar for about a minute along with what sounded like a lil pig squealing. Did anyone else hear this? I live on Gilman and Thurman.

Did anybody else hear anything in that area?  Let us know in comments below.

Probably a possum or a raccoon

Possum and/or raccoon and/or cat. Louder than you'd think.

Yes, but I don't think it was a bear. I don't live close by, but I heard what I think might have been raccoons outside my window at 730am this morning close to 34th ave and Ruffner. Scared me

Might have been a Lion ???

My two little dogs (and I) were attacked by a raccoon and they sure do sound like bears when they attack or when angry.

We've had raccoon fights on our deck – and the full-grown ones do sound like bears, a deep-throated roar. Scared the piss out of us the first time.

Isn't there still one coyote around? Also, raccoons are capable of loud “roaring” noises too. They can growl or squeal. I've had raccoons outside my house fighting on more than one occasion, especially during mating season, and the amount and variety of noises they make are astounding. I was surprised the first time I discovered it was raccoons and not a fire-breathing dragon.
