Magnolia will be without a video store in a few weeks with the news that Hollywood Video in The Village will close it doors. Employees were told this week that the store would close for good sometime in April.
The entire stock of dvds and games in the store will go on sale starting Friday (3/12) and the sale will continue until everything is gone. Employees working tonight did not know about prices but they said to expect some bargains. The store will continue renting movies for the next few weeks.
Customers at the store were shocked tonight to hear that the store will close. Employees tell us that they were also surprised by the news, even though they know the national chain has been having financial difficulties and has been closing other stores around the country.
There has been a movie rental store in that location in Magnolia for over twenty years. Mike’s Video was in that space starting in the 1980’s before Hollywood Video took over.
The parent company of the national chain filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in February. At that time they announced the closure of 760 stores operating under the Movie Gallery, Hollywood Video and Game Crazy names. At the time of the announcement the Magnolia store was not on the closure list.
There is no word as to what will go into that space on the corner of 32nd Ave West and West McGraw once Hollywood Video is gone.

I must admit, Netflix has just made it much cheeper to rent movies than going to the video store.

Heck with renting from anyone. Patience is a virtue that I practice by getting in line at the library. It's okay that I have to wait a while for a DVD while saving money for another use. Think about it.

I stopped going to Blockbuster ages ago. Ever heard of Redbox? There's one at Albertsons. Rentals for $1. They're all over Seattle. There are lots of other options like Netflix. Sorry Hollywood…but your days are long gone.

Time and technology march on. I hope for the best for the employees. Many were very helpful people that knew a lot about movies.

If you Google some of the old articles written about them closing stores down, a lot of what was written seemed to be lease issues.
Who owns that property? I wonder if it had to do with the landlord not willing to negotiate. The store was pretty hoppin' at night and wasn't really slow during the day.
Either way..man. Where am I going to rent my movies now?

i fell bad for the current employees but this is funny as hell they fired me in august 2009 for a honest mistake and all my other coworkers were fired or quit all of them are gone. that's what hollywood gets for screwing with the good crew we had.
