Memorial Day in Magnolia

A few events for you to celebrate Memorial Day (5/31) in Magnolia.

There will be a small ceremony at 10a.m. in front of the Post Office on West McGraw and another opportunity to honor veterans at 11am at the Fort Lawton Cemetery in Discovery Park. For any additional information please call 206-909-6853 or email elizabeth.servey@gmail.com.

You can also help clean up the Vietnam Memorial in the front parking lot at Blaine School on Monday. Volunteers will gather at 10a.m. to pull out the weeds and grass and beautify the memorial. You are asked to bring your own gardening tools. Contact coordinator Nancy Gilbert at 206-283-4638 or at soaring@blarg.net with questions.

Thank you Gladys for reminding us that Monday is not just part of a three day weekend.

Please take a moment to remember those who fought for this country and the many who made the ultimate sacrifice doing the same.

It’s a day to remember all the young people from small towns and poor backgrounds who are fighting in difficult circumstances now in our various branches of the military, many of whom made that choice due to economic hardships.

Few of us can name all the civil wars being fought worldwide but most of us can feel the pain for loved ones who miss their family in far off places and close to home involved in these violent conflicts.

Teaching tolerance, remembering history, and doing community service are the best ways to honor these people and to work for peace.
