Congratulations to the students at Lawton Elementary School who collected $1,000 in pennies through the Penny Harvest, a year round service learning program that engages students in community building, service learning and leadership.
Through the Penny Harvest students learn that they can change their community through their actions. Under the leadership of Lawton parent Barbara Ivester, the students collected the pennies and voted on where to donate the money. They gave $600 to the American Red Cross for the Haiti Relief effort and $400 to Homeless 2 Renter, a charity sponsored by the Congregation of Beth Shalom. Nice job kids!
