Early morning blasts

We have heard from a number of people wondering about some loud blasts that were heard in the area around 35th Ave West and Emerson streets on Sunday morning.

Trent in our forum asks “Does anyone have any idea what the 10 or so loud shots/explosions were last night at 4 a.m.?” Somebody else thought is sounded like gunfire. Another reader said “I was out walking the dog when I heard at least 10-20 shots near 36th and Emerson.” And from our facebook page “Does anyone know what the 10-15 blasts in Magnolia were just before 4:00 am Sunday morning? They didn’t sound like fireworks or car backfire.”

We are checking too but wanted to open it up to our readers to see if anybody knows what this was all about? Let us know in comments below.

They woke us up at 4am near 34th and Emerson. I thought immediately that they were gunfire, but there were so many I started to think they were fireworks. My fiance thinks they were too inconsistent for fireworks, though…

I first thought they were gunfire. The final two sounded more like fireworks though with the popping. They woke us up and I thought we might here police afterward, but nothing.

I was the one out walking the dog that night. I thought about calling 911, but did not have a phone on me, and figured someone else would do it.

I remember hearing about cases in big cities where someone was attacked, and nobody called the cops, figuring some else would do it. I could not imagine being in a similar situation and not getting involved by reporting it at least.

So I am wondering with some real shock-is it possible I contributed to this happening here? Did anyone call the police?

I am going to be pondering this for a while.

Any insight here? I must admit the whole thing was a little unnerving. I don’t see any incident report on the SPD blotter or related map (which is a really interesting source of data – http://web5.seattle.gov/mnm/policereports.aspx)

I heard similar noises over in Greenlake at just about 3:30 – 4:00 AM. Two very loud noises then three more a few minutes later. Scared the bejezus out of us. I was surprised to not see anything about it on any of the neighborhood blogs.

I live on 34th Ave and just found a discarded box on my front yard called “TNT Pop-Its” – it says Fun loud noise maker.

We just moved into the area (38th and area) and couple nights ago I was coming from the car late (1130 or so?) and heard what sounded like a bottle rocket taking off except with an M-80/100 exploding! Startled the hell out of me, almost dropped what I was carrying. Perhaps coincidentally, just before that I saw two cars tearing up 38th, turning on Dravus west, bass thumping and two minutes later – BAM!
