New residential/retail development planned for lot behind Red Mill Burgers

Red Mill Burgers in Interbay could soon have a lot of new neighbors. A mixed use development is being planned at 3040 17th Ave West. The proposed building would have five floors of residential units over street level retail and parking.

Currently, the lot is made up of a small warehouse and old machinery for sale. The proposed complex would be called Interbay Apartments with 220 to 240 residential units, 160 to 200 parking stalls, and 4000 square feet of commercial space.

We have calls in to the developer to find out more about the project and we’ll keep you posted. In the meantime, the community is invited to attend a design meeting to learn more about the development (pdf file). It will take place Wednesday, November 3 at 6:30pm at the Queen Anne Community Center.

Parking and traffic concerns will go largely ignored if not intentionally hampered by the beaurocratic twerps in charge. There will; however, be excessive bike racks and bicycle lanes available. I am surprised they haven’t painted the self righteous pedalers up and down Dravis, yet… or have they?

Of course traffic issues will NOT be addressed. Did they ask us all about then taking more $$ in the name of vehicle tabs this week? Of course. Boaters are reqired to go through “boater ed”. Why aren’t cyclists? Why aren’t, in the name of revenue enhancement, they also required to have a license plate, clearly visable? Wouldn’t be hizzoner McSchwinn and his community organizing crap, would it? How many intersections are currently using signals etc. from the 60′s-70′s that are in need of a dedicated turn lane/arrow? What do we get, a sharrow. Just what we need, another community organizer.

Good point about the traffic mess. It is already crazy dangerous now. How do you add 240 units to the current situation? I hope somebody is thinking about this before they green light the permit. The only thing I can think of is they close 16th and then put a light in at (17th?) down by Black Pearl. And one more thing, bicycles are cool and should be subsidized!

Brief history – MCC supported this development from the get go – no, even several years ago when the hub urban village overlay zoning was on the table the traffic issues were not addressed – by SDOT or the developer. The plan was that there was to be a light at 17th Ave W. Plan on the MCC doing their usual – writing a letter of concern – plan that if you want something that works – public needs to really put the screws to city – and plan on even going the legal route – this is a major project and the developer likes to spend major money getting his own way – with both the city and his consultants.

The traffic there really isn’t that bad. I used to live right over the RR tracks and came across Dravus all the time. There’s a lot more to complain about than the little amount of traffic west to east! Actually, no there isn’t! Why the heck are y’all complaining?!

I agree. There are only a few ways out of magnolia and adding 200+ units that directly merge out onto a main egress point will back up Dravus. They need to identify a solution.
