Wind storm damage

A tree that was knocked down during the heavy winds that blew through Magnolia did some serious damage.  These photos show what happened on 36th Ave West  between Ruffner and Emerson.

This car sustained heavy damage when the tree landed on its hood.

This power pole was toppled as well.

Thanks to Vicky and Lucas for these great photos.

If anyone else has photos of damage from the wind, send them to us at tips@magnoliavoice.com.

  1. Would be nice if Settle Power could stop shutting off power and turning it back on for the rest of Magnolia. Happened about 3-4 times this morning already. Guess non-disruptive maintenance in the middle of the day isn’t their specialty.

    1. Damn those Seartle City Light employees for not just working with those lines hot and leaving us lucky ones that don’t have to wait all
      day without power slightly inconvenienced!

      1. Um…I used to work for a large electrical utility as a lineman. It’s pure incompetence that they’re disrupting other people when attempting to restore that area of the neighborhood. They’re executing short-cuts in order to restore service. They’re purposely de-energizing the entire town or at least portions of it rather than transition it in a non-disruptive manner. The sad part is that there is that the average residential and business will suffer some amount of damaged electronics or at least a shortened lifespan of that equipment as a result of rapid energizing and de-energizing. While some people have UPS units as well as surge protectors, it still isn’t good enough.

The reason that dog died due to an energized surface is because Seattle Power wrote a RFP to outsource their inspections and REMOVED the provision that required logging of street lights and other external facing receptacles to save money. They have a culture of haste and doing things on the cheap.

        1. Thanks for that info CC. I recently invested a few more good quality UPS and so everything important is pretty much covered. Good timing too. We had at least four goods blips this morning.. and one was a really hard ZZZZzzzzzt! I had two PCs on at the time and they didnt even blink. Nor did my internet… I have modem on backup too. But I agree with you. UPS’ fail too and it is not fool proof protection.

  2. Hey! That’s our house!
Finally headed out at 1:45 and crews were STILL not there to start working on it. Going to go home and enjoy my warm milk.
