Our hill is home to a new running shop

There’s a brand- new running shop in Magnolia.?7 Hills sells athletic shoes for all types of running, as well as?cross-fit, walking, and hiking-along with the requisite apparel and gear.? Store owner, Phil Kochik has worked at running stores in Seattle for more than 10 years.?In a recent email to MV, he shed some light on the store’s name:

It?comes from the once-used term “Seven Hills of Seattle” back when there was a clearly defined 7 hills.? (First, Second, Capitol, Yesler, Denny, Queen Anne, Beacon)… Denny Hill was regraded into Belltown, Second Hill is now considered part of Capitol Hill, Yesler Hill is now considered part of First Hill.?so now to make seven, some people add West Seattle, Magnolia, and Crown Hill, (but it is all a moot point because seattle obviously has more than 7 hills!)?I just like that the name Seven Hills, it touches on seattle’s history a bit (which I find fascinating) and calls out my favorite part of running: hills!
Kochik says?”It has been my dream to own my own store for a few years now and I couldn’t be happier to open it in Magnolia so close to Discovery Park.??I will try to become THE place to go to buy trail running shoes and gear, but also sell road running shoes that work well for walking, working out at the gym, and cross-fit. I hope that my joy?of running rubs off a little on the people that walk through the door!”
7 Hills is offering a 10% off discount to Denali Fitness members, Magnolia Chiropractic and Massage patients, Fitness by Design clients, any student athletes, and Seattle Running Club members.
?7 Hills Running Shop is at 3139 W Government Way Ste B (between W 31st Ave & Fort St)

  1. I stopped in last week because I needed advice about arch support and new shoes. Phil was great. Fantastic service, knowledgeable and the pain I was having has been rectified with my new shoes. Welcome to Magnolia!

  2. I love this store. Just an FYI: the store has a great selection of gels and chews, as well as hydration packs and bottles. And Phil was nice to my dog.

  3. Wouldn’t it be cool if there was a trail race in Seattle’s biggest park? It’s got hills, miles of trails, and killer views. And parking. Maybe now that we have a trail running shop that’s something they’d be interested in organizing…

    1. Thanks for the story Magnolia Voice. Clive, i’d love to be a part of bringing a trail race to discovery park….but that won’t be easy. As a first step, I’d like to get Magnolia’s Run the Bluff 12k to be able to use the roads through the park. Once this happens, there’s a chance for a discussion for the future use of the trails. We are very protective of our parks here in Seattle, and not everyone will view a mass run through the trails of Discovery as a good thing.

    2. Unfortunately, it will never happen. Large organized events are not part of the goal, focus or “master park plan” of Discovery Park. It was meant to be a nature park…so you will never see such an activity sanctioned by Seattle Parks Dept. for Discovery Park.
      Sorry.

  4. Awesome job Kochik. If you can keep the prices right with friendly knowledgable service, I’m sure you will be able to thrive and become a staple in this community. Well done, wish you the best. I’m looking forward to stopping by.

  5. Very excited about this! I am an avid marathoner (3 or more per year) and I will definitely check the store out this weekend.
