Mercer Alert: Dance party at rush hour on Tuesday

A different kind of Mercer alert ? as if the construction, detours, gridlock, and traffic nightmare that is Mercer Street at rush hour wasn?t enough? well, there?s now a group planning a ?dance party? on Mercer on Tuesday, August 27th?at 5:30pm. We?ve had several readers send tips to us on this potentially disruptive event, so here?s the heads up.

The big question is ?why?? We?re not sure. The Facebook event page claims ?it will be fun, obviously? ? but fun is in the eye of the beholder, and those who have to deal with Mercer at rush hour will likely not view it through the same rose-colored glasses as those participating in the party.

Estimated Route for Dance Party

The group is meeting at 5:15pm, and the Facebook page says they?re meeting at Warner and Republican ? and perhaps a clue that they may not be from Queen Anne or Uptown, as it?s most likely Warren and Republican. They?ll move from the start to Mercer, proceeding to 5th?Ave N, concluding around 6pm.

We don?t know if they?ll stick to the sidewalk or spill out into the street. So, heads up, and thanks to our many readers who?ve sent in tips on this event!

  1. There’s 24 people listed as “going” and half of them probably won’t turn up. Seems like a bit of a hysterical response to something that probably won’t even be noticable.

  2. I appreciate hearing about it so I can purposely avoid the area at all costs. Thanks Sara!

  3. Absolute fiction. We actually didn’t plan to make traffic worse, rather dance on the sidewalk along side traffic. Interestingly enough, alarmist reactions to that idea rendered Mercer free of traffic 5:30-7 pm.
