Catharine Blaine K-8 presents a new musical adaptation of Shakespeare?s A Midsummer Night?s Dream set in 1961. Imagine Duke Theseus as JFK and Queen Hippolyta as Jackie.? Beatniks and leprechaun fairies ?make the scene? at Nick Bottom?s coffee house, ?Bottom?s Up?.

Twist the night away with Ponytail girls to ?Louie Louie?, ?Going to the Chapel?, and other 1950/1960?s boppin hits.? Live Rock n Roll provided by Blaine?s School of Rock band under the direction of Mike Anderson.? Whimsical chorus accompaniment provided by Glee Club under the direction of Andrea Giles.

Midsummer Night?s Dream is a full Blaine MultiArts initiative with all grades dipping their fingers in the creative process led by the creative vision of Laurel White. ?

While middle schoolers constructed set scenery including giant Easter-Island-like Tikis, younger graders participated in dramatic storytelling ? lighting magical lanterns and flying into Shakespeare?s world of mystical creatures, dreamy forests and comic blunders.

An all school promotional poster contest ensued with students learning about the basic points of print advertising, the art of layout and font to make great head-turning advertisements.?
