Local science fair winner does Magnolia proud

Athena Pierce, a sixth-grader at Catherine Blaine K-8, ?won big at the 58th annual Washington State Science and Engineering Fair, held in Bremerton on March 27-28, 2015.?Prior?to the fair, Athena worked for four months on her project, testing phototropic and gravitropic responses in various plants.? Last weekend she presented her?project to several teams of interviewers.? There were 675 entrants from all over Washington State, from grades 1-12.? Athena won a first place in her grade level, as well as “Best in Category” for best sixth-grade project statewide.? She was one of several students winning museum passes from sponsor Pacific Science Center.? Pierce was also one of only six sixth-graders nominated to enter the Broadcom MASTERS (Math, Applied Science, Technology and Engineering Rising Stars) competition, which is the nationwide, invitational?middle school science fair with finals in October.? Athena will also present her project at her own school fair on May 20.
