After running a successful Kickstarter campaign in January 2015, Magnolia resident Kim Darling has released her first in a series of cookbooks called:

Bad Aunty?s Kitchen Smarts

From the press release:

Knowing that one can save money by cooking at home, have a healthier diet by knowing what goes into one?s food, and arguably increase one?s marketability to potential partners (who doesn?t love having a delicious meal cooked for them?), Kim?s cookbook was written to teach adults how to cook in 7 cooking classes accompanied by 7 recipes that are simple, beautiful and delicious.??Bad Aunty?s Kitchen Smarts? covers basic kitchen skills and techniques from grocery shopping and knife skills to food safety and a classic French technique for flavor development.

We had the chance to talk with Kim last week?and we asked her a few questions:

MV:?Tell us?about your inspiration for your cookbook?

KD: I wanted to write something?that?had a different voice, that?was funny, entertaining and factual.? A??cookbook that taught basic skills in an interesting yet straightforward way.

MV: How did you get the nickname ?Bad Aunty??

KD: I never really had the ?girly gene.?? One day, I was at a gorgeous baby shower for a niece- I started feeling bad that?wasn?t in to all of the girliness- I felt like I would rather be watching a sporting event.? I felt like I was a ?Bad Aunty.?

Kim, 57, is a culinary school grad, former disk jockey, construction company owner, and kitchen shop manager. After learning from all of her previous occupations, Kim is ready to present her earthy, honest and entertaining culinary viewpoints to the world.

You can purchase Bad Aunty?s Kitchen Smarts at Magnolia’s Bookstore and Magnolia Garden Gift Shop. Click here for more information about the cookbook and for a peek at Darling’s website.
