Write your Memoirs this weekend

Ever think about writing down your memories? Your 10th Birthday party when you had a Barbie doll cake ? the kind that had a real Barbie doll in the middle and frosting was used for the bodice and the skirt was made of decorated cake? How about the family reunion where you learned your Dad got caught smoking in third grade and was sent home only to have his father, for punishment, make him smoke a whole cigar in front of the family at dinner. Or, do you have your great grandmother Rose?s letters that tell of life on a homestead in eastern Washington and you want to write about them so your children will know their roots?

The next free and fun writing memoir workshop sponsored by the Magnolia Historical Society, November 14th, 12:30-4:30, at the Magnolia library is taking reservations now 206.284.2430. Space is limited and fills up quickly.

The Magnolia Historical Society Memoir Writing workshops have for many years provided a safe place and fun atmosphere in which to learn to write down memories, share with others your family stories and improve your writing. Good instruction using prompts, kind critique and gentle advice get you to a rough draft, offer help with rewriting and suggest ways to publish or preserve your work for yourself, family or friends. You will work in small groups practicing writing and discussing your work. This workshop is designed to be a positive experience for beginners to the practiced writer. Everything you need will be provided: notebooks, writing implements and snacks.

Past students have commented: ?how nice it was to get positive feedback and solid suggestions of how to improve my writing.? ?There were so many resources provided to help me begin writing my memories. Meeting others who wrote interesting stories of their lives was inspiring.? ?The small groups and gentle instruction got me started on something I have wanted to do for a long time – write my memoir!? ?I now know how to provide my children with a history of me and my parent?s lives thanks to this intensive and fun class ? we did a lot of writing and sharing.
