In recent weeks, I have been hearing a very odd "screech" maybe four or five times in the middle of the night. It's quite loud, but it's brief with just two "notes." I think it's mechanical. I hear it about every two hours (although it's while I'm trying to sleep, so I may miss it sometimes). I can't figure out the source. Has anyone else heard it? I live near Albertsons and the Village.

We live near Albertson's too and also hear the "screech" sound in the middle of the night. It is quite annoying when you are trying to sleep! It seems to happen just when you've recovered from the last "screech" and almost fallen back asleep to start up again. :(

It was really bad about 4 months ago, almost like a car peeling out and then backfiring. My husband thought that it was coming from Albertson's (since I don't know what else it could be), maybe their refrigeration system or something, and talked with the workers and manager about it. A few days later, the "screeching" stopped.

Well . . . the "screech" sound is back again. Maybe you can talk with the folks at Albertson's this time or we can just invest in some good ear plugs.

Might it be train noise from the Interbay railyard?

Im curious now. What is the screech? Maybe a refigeration compressor on the fritz? I wonder if this is actually happening during the day too?

Racoons mating? Seriously the worst screeching I have ever heard!

Mag_mom, thanks for the insight! Nice to know we're not the only ones who hear it. I can't be certain, but I think Albertson's is a distinct possibility.

I've decided lately that it sounds like a rooster crowing (just a short crow!).

Anyway, I will go talk with a manager at Albertson's. Maybe if enough people speak up, they'll fix things once and for all.

    Thank you.

I live near the train yard and what you're describing sounds EXACTLY like what we listen to all night every night. (Plus add a few house-shaking booms. You surprisingly get used to it all when you live this close.) But that being said, I'd be surprised if it would carry all the way across the hill. Maybe if conditions are just right, the sound carries...
