Hi neighbors --
Halloween trick-or-treating on Viewmont is a phenomenon that's here to stay. Last year I was chatting with a Viewmont resident who passes out one candy per trick or treater. He and his partner went through 2300 candies. So we can estimate that at least 2300 children roam that street in the dark on Halloween. There are of course many more people in addition, and a lot of pets.
Last year was my first taking a kid up there, and I was repeatedly concerned by how nonchalantly city buses would come roaring through at high speed. Either they weren't aware of the event taking place or they weren't about to slow down anyway.
Thousands of kids in the dark in a candy hunting frenzy plus city buses tearing through is a recipe for disaster. Not saying it will happen, but that there very obviously is a big risk that ought to be mitigated. Does anybody know how to get a bus route detoured for just one night? I'm happy to work with you, and if you know someone in the city or on the neighborhood council all the better!
Please post ideas or advice. Thanks!
