Magnolia residents: If you had your car broken into last night (early AM 11/12/09) or recently for that matter, you may be able to claim your stolen property and or help the Police build their case by calling the West Precinct @ 206-684-8917 in reference to incident # 09-395290.

Here's what happened - I'm up watching late night TV and I hear something outside. So, I get up to take a look, and before my eyes I see three guys checking everyones car doors along Thorndyke Avenue. So of course I immediately call the cops and explain what I'm witnessing. Just as I'm getting ready for the 911 operator to start playing her violin, and tell me that unless I've been shot they don't have anybody to send.....Bam! The bad guys blast out a car door window and casually reach in for something and stroll back to their car to add it to their booty, like it was all in a days work! These guys ought to have D.O.T vest's on, the way they operate. At any rate, now the 911 operator is very interested, asks me my name and number over and over and then says "okay bye bye now" or something to that effect and hangs up on me.

Every night of the week I hear one siren after another. Tonight, nothing. Not a red or blue light to be seen anywhere in the distance, not a thing. I start calling neighbors to let them know their cars have been defiled, still nothing. All of a sudden out of no where, Blue Lights! The Cops had snuck up on the bad guys like Leopards stalking prey. Total surprise.

Okay, so I figured all I had to do now was to see if I could get my dvd player to rewind without having to hunt and peck for where I had left off?? But oh no.

Now I hear the sound of a cop car probing around out front so I get back up again just to see what's up. The cop car is just pulling away slowly as I noticed their window was rolled down slightly...I instinctively whistle and the car stops, backs up then starts off again. I whistle again, now the cops turn on their spot light and find me waving at them. They get out of the car and invite me to come for a ride with them. Boy what excitement!

As it turned out, the Police had cornered the bad guys at approximately Thorndyke and W. Raye St. and wanted me to confirm that they had nabbed the same guys and vehicle I had reported earlier. Needless to say it was a BINGO!

To my amazement the Police proceeded to unload quite a lot of stuff from the bad guys car.

The bad news is that 3 out of 4 bad guys bolted into the night and may be on the loose ready to strike again once they recover from the shock of their get away car being impounded and partner in crime being hauled off to jail...

All of us must do what we can to help the Police build a strong case against these guys and hopefully catch the remaining bandits...

So, as I mentioned above, be sure to call in and report your particular situation if you were violated last night or any time in the past for that matter.

As for the Seattle Police Department, Thank you for what you do!

By the way, we all need to write our politicians and tell them we want tougher laws on the book for this type of crime as well as a return to community Policing!

If Magnolia had three shifts of Policemen that we all came to know, I think this type of stuff would clear right up. The officers would get to know every back alley escape route, little old lady and late night hawk-eye as well as every up and coming criminal in the neighborhood. What do you say? Let your voice be heard.

Have a Wonderful Thanks giving - Be vigilant and be safe.

Thank you for being so diligent. You're right - we all need to be more aware of what's happening. It's a good time for neighbors to update their contact lists of people on their block so they can communicate when these things happen. We might also ask the SPD to come to a community meeting to talk about what to do when this happens and what we can expect from them.

eyeinthesky: Thank you for posting this and major kudos to you for being such a wonderful and dilligent neighbor!

I posted on here a few weeks back about my own car (and several others on our street) having been broken into. While nothing was stolen from my vehicle, I was still stuck with an expensive bill for repairing the shattered window.

Here is to hoping that the crooks that they caught will get some jail time!

Again, thank you for being a great neighbor and for getting involved!

Super cool. Did they happen to find my stolen 99 Honda Civic Si in the pile of plunder?
