Accident update; no charges yet

February 6th, 2009 by Gladys

We have had a number of readers ask what happened to the driver following the bad accident on 15th Ave West last Friday. We checked with Seattle Police Department spokesperson Mark Jamieson and he says so far no charges have been filed against the driver who caused the accident.

The Initial accident report from SPD said the suspect was driving his Toyota Highlander at a very high rate of speed, cutting in and out of traffic and passing other vehicles using the center turn lane before colliding head on with another vehicle and seriousely injuring the driver and passenger.

The adult male suspect was taken to Harborview with non-life-threatening injuries, where officers evaluated him for suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs.

Jamieson says the investigation is ongoing and it can take quite awhile to sort through the evidence after such a serious accident.  He stressed that this is not unusual and if there are any charges they will happen after the investigation is complete and sent to the prosecutor’s office.

We will keep checking and let you know if charges are filed.

Big accident on 15th in Interbay

January 30th, 2009 by Geeky Swedes

UPDATE:  Traffic was backed up for almost six hours following the accident on Friday night.

According to SPD, the suspect was driving his Toyota Highlander north on 15th Ave W at a very high rate of speed, cutting in and out of traffic and passing other vehicles using the center turn lane. He hit one car near Armory Way and did not stop.  The female driver in that collision was not injured.

The suspect continued northbound at excessively high speeds, driving in the center lane and passing other motorists. He drove into the left lane of southbound traffic and collided head on into a Honda CRV occupied by two women, injuring them both. The suspect spun out of control and collided into a Mini Cooper. That driver was not hurt. Both women in the Honda CRV were transported to Harborview, the 65-year-old driver had life-threatening injuries and the front seat passenger had non-life-threatening injuries.

The adult male suspect was also transported to Harborview with non-life-threatening injuries, where officers evaluated him for suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs.

UPDATE:  Additional coverage and photographs from KIRO TV.  Firefighters had to cut the injured people out of both vehicles.  We checked the Fire Department 911 Response Log and a total of 14 fire/rescue units were sent to the scene of the accident, including the heavy rescue unit at 3pm today.

UPDATE:  KOMO TV says that two people are critically injured following the crash.  A 40 year old woman and 45 year old man have been rushed to Harborview with life threatening injuries.  Another female passenger, age unknown, was also taken to the hospital to be checked out.

Drivers report that traffic is being rerouted into Magnolia to avoid the back up caused by the accident.

A collision along 15th Ave. near the Interbay Golf Center at 3 p.m. this afternoon created long traffic backups stretching all the way to the Ballard Bridge. Mike emailed us to say it’s a “terrible head-on accident” involving a SUV, and there are reports of three injuries, one critical.

Woman blames puppy for Interbay accident

August 1st, 2008 by Geeky Swedes

A woman says her puppy stepped on her steering wheel while she was driving off the Magnolia Bridge onto Elliott Ave. That’s when her car drove into a Seattle police officer directing traffic there. “My dog started to mosey over to the window and she stepped on the wheel and made it jerk,” she told the Seattle PI. The officer was taken to the hospital with leg and neck injuries.
