Volunteers make Magnolia sparkle

February 10th, 2009 by Gladys

The Clean and Green Event in Magnolia over the weekend drew a big crowd of volunteers willing to clean up the neighborhood.  Over 75 people came to the city sponsored event to help with a variety of clean up activities.

The group, including Seattle Mayor Greg Nickels, planted shrubs in the traffic triangle between Bartells and the new townhomes, picked up trash in The Village and did general clean up duties around the areas of Government Way, Gilman, and Thorndyke Avenue.

There group included a number of young people who were hard at work along with their parents.

Pam Lewis from Sustainable Magnolia helped organized the event.  She says if Magnolia residents would like to Adopt-a-Street in the neighborhood or help keep The Village clean they can click here

Pam says her group wants to make sure The Village and major roadways in Magnolia don’t become so dirty again.

Congratulations to the volunteers who gave up their time on Saturday to get this work done.  We were in The Village yesterday and thought it looked great!

Ideas needed for Clean and Green event

December 29th, 2008 by Gladys

A Magnolia group is looking for ideas for our area for the upcoming Mayor’s Clean and Green event.  They are hoping that readers will send feedback so the group can make a plan for the event scheduled for February 7.

Clean and Green is basically a work party the city sponsors to beautify neighborhoods through litter pick ups, tree plantings or whatever the community feels it needs.  The group would like to have imput from readers regarding the areas of Magnolia that could benefit from a work party.  They also need to recruit volunteers for the event.

Send ideas to Margaret Flaherty at Maggarcen@aol.com.
