After being badly injured by a coyote on Monday, Tina the dog is recovering with her family at home in Magnolia. The vet released Tina to her owner, LaQuita Fenton, late Tuesday. Fenton says that Tina still has a long recovery ahead but she is doing well.

(Jim Bates/The Seattle Times)
Two anonymous donors paid the initial vet bill so that Fenton could bring Tina home. Fenton says she is very grateful for the support because she is not able to afford the expenses associated with Tina’s recovery. If you would like to help with the ongoing costs of Tina’s care, call Fenton at 206-283-2411.
Following the attack, the first vet that saw Tina said there was no hope for her survival. Fenton then took the dog to the Seattle Animal Shelter on 15th Avenue West and the surgery that saved Tina’s life was performed at the Animal Critical Care & Emergency Services (ACCES) in Lake City, a 24-hour emergency veterinary center.

(Jim Bates/The Seattle Times)
Fenton tells us she is currently unemployed and recovering from an industrial accident and she is thankful to the two individuals who paid the $932 vet bill after seeing reports about the attack. Fenton also says that in the future Tina will be on a leash whenever she goes outside. (Photos used with the permission of our media partners at The Seattle Times.)
Meanwhile, the Magnolia coyotes are still being seen in the neighborhood. Readers tell us they saw a coyote at 29th and Ruffner on Tuesday night. Sheri writes in the forum that her husband saw a coyote while running in Discovery Park.

UPDATE: The owner of Tina the dog now says that the dog did not have to be put to sleep and is expected to survive following surgery tonight. Vets initially said there was no hope for the animal and the dog’s owner is very relieved but concerned about the cost of the surgery. Vets expect bills to exceed $1,00 for Tina’s recovery.
UPDATE 8:30pm We just got back from the area near Raye Playfield where the coyote attacked a small dog this afternoon. Police officers are in the area, warning pet owners about the coyote attack. Officers now tell us that they believe there may be two coyotes living in the neighborhood. They are watching for the coyotes in the wooded area on the east side of Raye playfield between 23rd and 24th Ave West on Armour. The officers warn against leaving any small pets outside and say all dogs should be on a leash.
UPDATE: 6:30pm The coyote that has been living in Magnolia for the past two months attacked a small dog this afternoon. The dog and its owner were waiting for the school bus after school at 23rd Ave West and West Armour. The owner says the dog likes to meet the kids as they get off the bus. While they were waiting, the dog spotted the coyote and went to give it a sniff. The coyote quickly grabbed the dog and took it into the nearby brush. Police were called and the dog was rushed to the vet but it was very badly injured. Police did not capture the coyote.
KIRO TV was in Magnolia covering another story and happened to be on the scene when the coyote attacked the dog. Reporter Chris Legeros says the dog, named Tina, is a chihuahua and pug mix. Legeros says he saw a big gray flash of fur as the coyote jumped onto the dog. He says that parents at the bus stop were screaming as the coyote attacked the dog.
The Magnolia coyote has been seen a number of times in the past few days, we have received a number of emails from readers who have observed it in the area.
Jack took these pictures this morning at the intersection of 22nd Ave West and Thorndyke. He says the coyote was attracting lots of attention as many people stopped to check him out and take pictures. He sent us these two shots.

We also got this picture from Timothy who saw the coyote in his yard last night on Armour between 21st and 22nd Ave West. . He said the coyote hung around just long enough to be photographed.

This is the same general area where the coyote has most recently been seen. There have been reports of the coyote in the Magnolia neighborhood since the middle of November.
Thanks for the great pics Timothy and Jack.

The Magnolia coyote is still in living in our area. Eliah wrote to tell us he saw the coyote on Tuesday night. I live on Bertona and 22nd. I was getting back from work around 6pm tonight and when I got out of my car I saw it across the alley from my parking spot. It just stared for a second then took off down the alleyway. I know some people have reported sightings so thought this might help.

In case you missed it, the coyote story was picked up the our media partner The Seattle Times on Sunday. Read it here.

We know that we have shown you lots of coyote pictures recently but this one from reader Ginni is the best we have seen so far of the coyote who is calling Magnolia home.
![coyote_003[1] coyote_003[1]](http://www.magnoliavoice.com/uploads/coyote-0031-thumb.jpg)
It appears the coyote has no plans to visit out of town relatives this holiday season as we continue to receive daily sightings from readers.
Thanks to Ginni for the photo and Jeff and others for the latest info on the coyote.

We get lots of interesting emails at Magnolia Voice but we wanted to share the first letter we have ever received from a dog. Its timely given all the concern lately about the coyote who is roaming the neighborhood.
Hello Magnolians,
With the ongoing coyote activity, I thought I should let everyone know that my name is Mazama, and I am not a coyote. A fair number of folks in our neighborhood (22nd and Ruffner) as well as concerned citizens at Discovery Park have asked my owner if I am a coyote.

I’m a rescued Siberian Husky. A bit skinny. Very friendly (watch out for face licks). Like the coyote, I probably shouldn’t be left alone with your chickens but other than that you have no need to worry.
I can be frequently encountered at Discovery Park. Feel free to pet me or give me treats but please don’t scream if you see me. I’m always on my leash and I’m really not scary at all.

With the recent coyote sightings, good to know that Mazama is just a friendly neighborhood pet.

We are starting to wonder when the coyote sightings in Magnolia no longer qualify as news, since they are becoming a daily occurrence but for now we will continue to let you know when our readers spot him/her in the area.
On Monday a reader saw the coyote by the gas station in The Village which is the first report we have had of it in the main shopping area. On Tuesday morning around 7am another reader saw the coyote at 29th and Bertona.

This is our favorite picture of the coyote who has been living in the Magnolia area for the past month, and seems to cover lots of ground in its travels.

It looks like the coyote is sticking around Magnolia for the holidays. Mark sent us this picture he took this morning

I was standing in my yard this morning and noticed the coyote trotting up 43rd street toward Magnolia Blvd. It crossed the blvd on the opposite side of our 3505 Magnolia Blvd home and continued casually toward Discovery Park.
The coyote has been seen in that area before and he has also been spotted numerous times on the east side of Magnolia too.
Thanks Mark for the photo!

It appears the coyote that has been spotted around Magnolia the last couple of weeks is not going anywhere.
Amy says she saw the coyote this weekend, in the same general area it has been spotted before.
Spotted the coyote on Saturday, Dec 5th 9:15am right across the street from the Boxcar Ale House / Arco gas station – he was running around, not scared of people or cars. I think they are common in many metro areas – I think they live around here most of the
time!

This picture of the Magnolia coyote was taken in a backyard on 23rd Ave West.

Its been about a week since we had a report of the coyote that has been roaming around Magnolia. Since early November it has been spotted near 40th Ave West, 23rd Ave West, and Pier 91. Magnolia Voice reader rdm reports in the forum that he saw the coyote again on Wednesday night.
I was sitting on my deck having a smoke (around 10:30pm), when Magnolia’s favorite coyote came trotting down the my alley between 20th & 21st W (half block north of Dravus – it was heading towards Dravus near the AM/PM). I wasn’t able to grab my camera quick enough unfortunately. I’ve noticed a few cats in the area with collars and tags roaming about. Figured it might be a good idea to keep your critters indoors for a little while.

This is the best photo of the coyote so far, taken in a backyard on 23rd Ave West. If you see the coyote, drop us a note at tips@magnoliavoice.com and let us know.

Magnolia Voice reader Kristin found the coyote in her yard on Sunday morning in the 2800 block of 23rd Ave West.
The Magnolia coyote appeared in our yard this morning about 10:30. It is good sized, appears healthy and doesn’t appear to be the least bit skittish about humans in its immediate vicinity. It didn’t balk a bit about being within 10 feet of me or my husband, even as I moved toward it, camera in hand. In fact, the picture was taken without a telephoto lens.
First it ate the cat food on our neighbor’s deck, then it chased a squirrel up a tree. Another neighbor’s tethered dog (a big, Newfoundland mix, I believe) was barking incessantly at it, and the coyote appeared to want a piece of that dog (its fur was up, teeth bared as it patrolled the fence line, looking for an avenue to get at it.) Fortunately, the coyote didn’t find a break in the fence.
The coyote hung out in our yard for about 15 minutes before heading south down the alley.
The coyote has been moving around the Magnolia area. We first reported it when it was seen earlier this month near 40th Ave West. and then near Pier 91
Thanks Kristine for the amazing pictures.

Eliot emailed us this photo this morning of a coyote hanging out at pier 91.

Eliot writes, “I’m a school bus driver and saw the coyote when I returned to the bus lot at Pier 91.”
On Wednesday, a Magnolia Voice reader spotted a coyote in the 5400 block of 40th Ave West.

Magnolia Voice reader Rick wrote to warn neighbors about a coyote he saw Wednesday morning.
I was outside my house this morning at 5:00 a.m. and as I was cleaning the street drain across from my property I noticed a Coyote walking down 40th Av. W. at the 5400 block. The Coyote continue to walk down the middle of the street headed north on 40th and then disappeared on to the hillside (Discovery Park) above the street. The Coyote did not seem frightened by my presence and it may be something that needs to be reported to your readers, especially ones with pets.
If anyone else sees the coyote, let us know in comments below.
