These are tough times and restaurants are pulling out all the stops to bring in customers. Magnolia’s Palisade is trying to lure wedding business with a first ever bridal open house at the restaurant on Sunday, March 1 from 1 to 4 p.m.

The event is a way to introduce Palisade’s facilities and cuisine. A group of local wedding vendors will also be on hand. The event is free, but requires an RSVP. Palisade catering director Erin Mitchell hopes this will show brides that even on a tight budget, it is possible to have a nice event. Palisade will provide appetizers and wedding cake samples.
To reserve your space call the Palisade catering department at 206-285-1000. You need to make your reservations right away, they want you to call by end of day Thursday (2/26).

In the past two years, the amount of food kept out of landfills through the city of Seattle’s commercial organic composting efforts has more than tripled. The number of participating businesses has jumped from 330 to more than 800.

One of the restaurants participating is Magnolia’s own Palisade where kitchen staffers now throw everything from fish scraps to vegetable ends to wood chips burned in the oven into compost bins. The restaurant says the biggest downside is the space the bins consume but they have reduced the amount of regular garbage hauled away by 70 percent according to an article in today’s Seattle PI.
