The countdown is on to one of the biggest weekends of the year in Magnolia. The annual Summer Festival takes place this Friday and Saturday around Magnolia Village. Here’s a rundown of some of the highlights:

Friday, August 6 (Noon to 10pm)
Noon: Pie Eating Contest (Main Stage)
7pm: Talent Show (Community Center)
Dusk: Movie Night (Community Center), “Galaxy Quest” is the feature
Come down to visit the art show, browse art and crafts for sale, drink in the beer garden and visit the food vendors. It all takes place on the ball fields below the community center. There will be an entertainment stage there too and fun stuff for kids.

Saturday, August 7 (10:30am to 9pm)
10:30am: Kiddie Parade
11am: Main Parade (starts on 34th Ave W by community center, down McGraw, and through the Village)
Noon: Baby Races (Magnolia Garden Center)
Bands and entertainment will also be on hand to keep you entertained. If you can’t make it, we’ll be there taking plenty of pictures to post here on Magnolia Voice.

A quick reminder that the deadline is May 8 for artists to submit art work for the festival poster, postcard and the cover of the festival program for the annual Magnolia Summer Festival and Art Show. The festival which is held the first weekend in August has become a well known tradition in the community.

Artists can submit a piece of artwork or design around the theme of Summer in Magnolia. The media can be photo, watercolor, oil, and mixed media. The finished poster will be 11 x 17 inches, in color, and contain information about the festival.
Information about the artist will appear in the program and the winner can have a free booth at the Summer Festival. If you are interested, please deliver your application to the Magnolia Chamber of Commerce at

They were setting up in the rain but it looks like the weather will be clear for the next couple of days as the annual Summer Festival comes to Magnolia. The festival opens up today at noon with the art show, food booths, activities for kids, beer garden and craft booths.
Saturday starts at 10:30 am with the kids parade followed by the main parade. The parade starts on 34th Ave West and turns onto McGraw Street through the Magnolia Village. The outdoor movie is set for Magnolia Park at dusk on Satuday night.

Make your plans now to attend Magnolia SummerFest and Art Show this weekend. It will be held on Friday, August 1 and Saturday, August 2.

Summerfest has been the highlight of summer in Magnolia, in one form or another, for over 55 years. The parade has run for over 30 consecutive years.
Throughout the weekend, thousands of people visit the festival to enjoy food, entertainment, the largest children’s parade in Seattle, talent contests and concerts, art vendors and a juried art show. There will also be a sidewalk sale, outdoor movie and baby crawling race. (The 2008 Summer Festival poster was designed by Jennifer Kuhns and will be available for sale at the festival.)
The event runs from noon to 10:00 pm on Friday and 10:30 to 10:00 pm on Saturday. For a full schedule, visit the website at www.magnoliaartshow.org
