Planning underway for Magnolia Manor Park

Over 50 community members interested in an off-leash area for dogs, p-patches and other uses attended the Magnolia Manor Park workshop to work towards creating the initial designs for the park. All the designs will be posted on the park website soon.

The suggestions from the group ranged from Zen park space to slides down the sloped areas, climbing walls and even honeybee hives.  The most common elements in the plans were designed spaces for an off-leash dog park (which has been mandated by Parks and Recreation for the Park) and space for P-patches. Many plans include a walking path around the reservoir, kid spaces and elements of sustainability like LED path lights, native plants, wild flowers atop the grassy lidded reservoir and a passive water fountain.

The idea of making the Lawton School play areas, Lawton Park and Ravine path and Magnolia Manor Park a connecting loop of parks was also discussed.

The next step in the process will be a walk in the park on March 5th from 10am to 12noon at Magnolia Manor Park  (3500 28th Avenue West) to refine ideas.

If you can?t attend the meetings, you can still give your recommendations for the park via the survey form on the website. You can also join the Friends of Magnolia Manor Park by signing up as a volunteer on the site.

  1. Not that I am going to complain about a new/improved park in our neighborhood but how is this happening? After reading the article in the paper this weekend that the city can’t sustain the parks they already have. Too many parks, too little dollars to maintain them.

  2. I don’t understand where they are getting the funding to do this? They just layed off people? Parks Deparment you need to stop spending…
